Fylgja – The Witching Other…
This recently finished painting is taken from some teachings and gentle reminder I received whilst journeying about the abundance of spiritual support and help that we all have available to us (…and often times don’t fully access.)
We are held at all times by our Spirits, but most especially by our fylgja, also sometimes known as our fetch(mate), familiar or the witching other. These are personal guiding, tutelary and protective spirits that have been with us since before taking our first steps into this world… and who will continue to walk along side guiding us long after we leave this mortal coil.
The amount we can access our fylgja’s support and guidance depends on how conscious we are of our relationship with them and our Spirits in general as well as how much we nurture and grow it.
From my personal experience over many years, engaging in a deeply personal and intimate relationship with our fylgja is infinitely rewarding and nourishing on all levels, full of beauty, support and love. It is through working with our fylgja that we can also begin to access latent ancestral gifts, teachings, power as well as luck.
If you don’t already have a relationship with your fylgja and would like to start one, simply ask them for help or to make themselves known to you (in what ever way feels right to you) and open your heart.
